Protect Your Immune System

So February's ending and I have been able to survive another winter without getting too sick (knock on wood). But that doesn't mean I'm out of the sickly woods. People are susceptible to illness any time of the year. That's why it is so important to take care of your immune system.

Your immune system is your body's system of defense against bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. The immune system consists of different cells, tissues, and organs in your body. While it is interesting to know exactly what the immune system of composed of. I think it is maybe even more important to learn how to protect and take care of your immune system.

I found an article on webMD that discusses the facts and myths about your immune system. Here is a summary of what I found is important:

1) Stress makes you more vulnerable to illness. So imprisoning to bad relationships or a bad workplace will decrease your immune system and make you more susceptible for diseases.

2)Getting a flu vaccine will give your immune system strength. There is one more reason to get the vaccine. Aside from protecting you against the flu, it can also give you immune system some added protection.

3)What you eat will probably affect your immune system. This emphasizes the importance of eating a well balanced meal. Increase antioxidants, Vitamin C and A, as well as drinking tea can be beneficial to your immune system.

4)Your immune system will get weaker as you grow older. This is a depressing fact, but it is inevitable that as you grow older your body's immune system is not as strong as when you were younger. According to the artilce, people over 65 "have lower responses to vaccines as compared to young people."

5)Running a fever when you're sick may actually help your immune system. A higher temperature in your body can speed up the cells functioning, which includes cells that fight illnesses.

Those were the more important information that I found might be helpful for you to start making the necessary improvments for your immune system. It seems to me it usually always comes down to living an active and balanced life style. Eat healthy balanced meals, excercise consistently, learn to deal with stress and live happily!
