All my life I've never had to care about my weight. But It's hard because I may look skinny, but I an unhealthy inside full of sugar and all that bad containment. I gotta figure a way to feel better and not feel so sluggish about myself. but how bout the obesity people? how do they deal with feeling sluggish and not healthy. Most importantly they aren't doing anything about it! It is possible to pass this on to your children and they will become obese. The finding in an animal study suggests that blocking this gene could one day be a therapeutic strategy to reduce diet-related obesity and associated disorders, such as diabetes and liver damage, in humans.
The researchers found that a diet rich in fat induced production of this gene, called protein kinase C beta (PKC beta), in the fat cells of mice. These mice rapidly gained weight while eating a high-fat diet for 12 weeks.
On the other hand, mice genetically engineered to lack PKC beta gained relatively little weight and showed minimal health effects after eating the same high-fat diet.
In comparing the effects of the high-fat diet and a regular diet, the scientists found that mice fed the high-fat diet produced more PKC beta in their fat tissue than did mice eating a regular diet.

So the other day i was out with my friend and he had a friend of his over too.
His friend as him if later on he wanted to go play left for dead for a little while. Again me being as video game aliterate as possible i asked what left 4 dead was and they both explained.( i have to give myself a little credit because i knew some of what they were talking about i figured they went to a place to play against each other just like ppl use to do with counterstrike)
anyways so it made me wonder. why arent there places out there for girls to go play or to get together and interact with each other?
hahaha after awhile i figured that was a pretty dumb question for me to ask and dropped it.
but back to my point Left 4 dead is someting my guy friend likes to do.. and to be honest i think its kinda cute because no matter how old a guy is ( in this case 21) he still enjoys going to play against his friends just like he did when they were younger.
And even though i have never played im always still willing to learn especially if its something that interested him.. but even if im never asked to play ( which is always no big deal) i know that when hes out there hes connecting with this little boy side. and like i said before its kinda cute :]
Let me just get striaght to the point. I love salt, i add it to almost everything i eat( there are a few exceptions) but i just love the taste! i remember when i was little i would have to try and sneak some more salt in my food when my parents werent watching, because they would always say "you dont need that much" or "it already has salt in it" i hated hearing that. So when they would turn around or get up i would grab the slat shaker and try to put in as much as i could without them looking.( i got caught a few times but it was all worth it)
As i grew up i started to realize that all this storys my grandma and parents had told me werent just made up to scare me.Eating too much or too littel salt can have some serious health effects. Here are some of the Side effect for consuming too much salt.
Excess salt consumption has been linked to:
osteoporosisGastric cancer (Stomach cancer)
hypertension (high blood pressure):
left ventricular hypertrophy (cardiac enlargement)
edema (BE: oedema):
duodenal ulcers and gastric ulcers
i was shocked to see of those effects on the list cause i would have never thought salt could kill you but apparently it can. again with all storys theres always two sides and too little amount of salt intake can cause other health issues as well.
muscle cramps, dizziness, or even an electrolyte disturbance, which can cause severe, even fatal, neurological problems.
Drinking too much water, with insufficient salt intake, puts a person at risk of water intoxication (hyponatremia). Salt is even sometimes used as a health aid, such as in treatment of dysautonomia.
SO after reading all of this i still have a LOVE of salt.
i guess now i just have to realized that sometimes i only need two shakes instead of three.

My parents used to tell me, "Don't eat spicy foods. It causes pimples and it's bad for you." It made sense to me, if soemthing is spicy and hurts your mouth isn't that your body's way of telling you it's harmful? Not necessarily. I've recently learned that eating spicy food is actually beneficial.
Anything spicy, from chilli peppers to jalapeno contains a sustance called CAPSAICIN, which is what gives the heat. Capsaicin is believed to reduce platelet formation to increase blood flow. In addition to increase blood flow, capsaicin is also believe to reduce pain. I remember seeing Dr. Oz on Oprah once, and he mentioned that the India Diet was so good for you, because it contains alot of spice, more specifically capsaicin.
In an article found in healingdaily.com, it states, "Today cayenne is used worldwide to treat a variety of health conditions, including poor circulation, weak digestion, heart disease, chronic pain, sore throats, headaches and toothache." That explains why people from around the world have been using cayennne to treat ailments for centuries. Chinese medicine use cayenne for digestive conditions. Dr. Richard Schulze, a medical herbalists, says, "If you master only one herb in your life, master cayenne pepper. It is more powerful than any other."

So February's ending and I have been able to survive another winter without getting too sick (knock on wood). But that doesn't mean I'm out of the sickly woods. People are susceptible to illness any time of the year. That's why it is so important to take care of your immune system.
Your immune system is your body's system of defense against bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. The immune system consists of different cells, tissues, and organs in your body. While it is interesting to know exactly what the immune system of composed of. I think it is maybe even more important to learn how to protect and take care of your immune system.
I found an article on webMD that discusses the facts and myths about your immune system. Here is a summary of what I found is important:
1) Stress makes you more vulnerable to illness. So imprisoning to bad relationships or a bad workplace will decrease your immune system and make you more susceptible for diseases.
2)Getting a flu vaccine will give your immune system strength. There is one more reason to get the vaccine. Aside from protecting you against the flu, it can also give you immune system some added protection.
3)What you eat will probably affect your immune system. This emphasizes the importance of eating a well balanced meal. Increase antioxidants, Vitamin C and A, as well as drinking tea can be beneficial to your immune system.
4)Your immune system will get weaker as you grow older. This is a depressing fact, but it is inevitable that as you grow older your body's immune system is not as strong as when you were younger. According to the artilce, people over 65 "have lower responses to vaccines as compared to young people."
5)Running a fever when you're sick may actually help your immune system. A higher temperature in your body can speed up the cells functioning, which includes cells that fight illnesses.
Those were the more important information that I found might be helpful for you to start making the necessary improvments for your immune system. It seems to me it usually always comes down to living an active and balanced life style. Eat healthy balanced meals, excercise consistently, learn to deal with stress and live happily!

There are a lot of women being diagnosed with breast cancer. A lot of the times it is from hereditery. How do you stop this? I would like to know since a lot of women in my family almost has a scare with or actually diagnosed with it. So could Virgin Oil help out with avoiding breast cancer? The study has shown the anti-HER2 effect of fractions of phenolic compounds directly extracted from extra virgin olive oil in breast cancer cell lines. They have used solid-phase extraction methods of semi-preparative liquid chromatography to isolate fractions of commercial oils and, later, separation techniques (capillary electrophoresis and liquid chromatography connected to mass spectrometry) to check the purity and composition of the fractions.
Such fractions were tested in their anti-cancer capacity both against positive HER2 and negative HER2 breast cancers, using in Vitro models and evaluating the effect of polyphenolic fractions in the expression and activation of HER2 oncoprotein through ELISA specific methods for HER2. Fractions containing polyphonels such as hydroxitirosol, tirosol, elenolic acid, lignans, pinoresinol and acetopinoresinol, and secoiridoids, diacetox oleuropein aglycone, ligustrosid aglycone and oleuropein aglycone were able to induce important tumoricid effects in a range of micromolar and in a selective way against HER2 oncogene.
Therefore, this study confirms the potentiality of polyphenols to inhibit HER2 activity and to promote its degradation. Such results, together with the fact that humans have consumed secoiridoids and lignans safely for a long time through oil and olive oil consumption, endorse the fact that such phytochemicals could be an excellent and safe basis for the design of new antiHER2 compounds.
This work has been carried out by Javier A. Menéndez, coordinator of the Translational Research Unit of the Catalonian Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Girona, and by doctors Alberto Fernández Gutiérrez –in charge of the “Research Group of Analytic, Environmental, Biochemical and Food Control”- and Antonio Segura Carretero, member of such group.
This Research Group of the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Granada (Spain) has developed other interesting research works in the characterization of polyphenolic profiles of an important number of plants and metabolomic studies of extracts with proved bioactivity through the use of advanced separation techniques.

So Valentine's Day is here, and sales for chocolate have probably increased by 300% (okay i'm exaggerating). But I'm sure people's pantry and desk drawers now have pieces of delicious chocolate waiting for them. As for me, I have a chocolate cake waiting for me at home. =) Because chocolate is high in sugar and fat, chocolate is sometimes known as the "guilty pleasure". But there is some good news for chocolate lovers out there.
In an article on the WebMD by Daniel J. Denoon, titled, A Dark Chocolate a Day Keeps the Doctor Away, he states, "Eating a small 1.6 ounce bar of dark chocolate every day is good for you." This is based on study by Mary Engler, PhD, RN, of University of California, San Francisco. The gist of the study involved two groups. One group was given dark chocolate with high-cocoa content. The high-cocoa content contained a large amount epicatechin. Epicatechin is a member of a group of compound called plant flavoniods. This is the keyword, FLAVONIODS. Flavoniods according to DeNoon, "keep cholesterol from gathering in blood vessels, reduce the risk of blood clots, and slow down the immune responses that lead to clogged arteries."
The other group was given a bar of dark chocolate to eat each day for two weeks also, but the flavoniods were taken out. At the end of the trial both groups were tested, and the group that ate the chocolate with flavoniods tested much better for blood vessel functioning. Improved blood vessel functioning means better blow flow through your heart.
Dark chocolate is better than other chocolates because chocolate companies have discovered that dark chocolate keep up to 95% of its flavoniods. While this is great news for dark chocolate lovers, as with anything, you should still eat in moderation. This doesn't mean you should go an increase your amount of dark chocolate consumption by ridiculous amounts. DeNoon reiterates the importance of moderation, he states, "While a little dark chocolate is good, a lot is not better. Chocolate still is loaded with calories. If you're going to eat more chocolate, you'll have to cut back somewhere else. And remember that a balanced diet -- and plenty of exercise -- is still the key to heart health."

I figure in honor of Valentine's Day, I'll write about the organ of the hour, the Heart! It's no question that the heart is probably the most important organ of your body. It is the organ that pumps blood, which contains the minerals that are essentail for your cells (i.e oxygen), through out your entire body. The heart pumps blood to your brain, your nervous system, and down to your feet. If the heart stopps working, you'll stop working.
It is important to keep your heart beating consistently and regularly. Keeps your arteries clean by eating foods low in low density lipids (bad cholesterol), and avoiding saturated fats. Exercising regularly to keep your heart beating and blood flowing throughout. Aside from exercise, the other most beneficial thing you can do for your heart is to eat right.
Some things to increase in your diet are Omega-3 fatty acids. This can be found most commonly in salmon. There are also certain vitamins and minerals that you can increase into your diet. In an article by Charlene J Nuble, titled, Vitamins and Minerals Help Ensure a Good Healthy Heart, she writes the potassium can help the heart. She states, "potassium is essential to the rhythmic, smooth and continuous pumping of the heart." Potassium is envolved in impulse potential between neuron to neuron. Potassium is very useful in helping to regulate a person's heartbeat.
Some other vitamins listed on the article are:

Over the years the term "douche" has been popping up everywhere. maybe its just me.. but i guess until a few years ago i never really heard the term.As usual when you hear a new words like that you wonder what it is? I would regurally heard my male classmates call each other "douche bags" so i figured it had to be a negative thing.
Out of curiosity one day i decided to figure out what a douche really was,and although i had an idea of what it might be im glad i looked it up because it provided me with tons of information on the subject.
A douche is a device used to introduce a stream of water into the body for medical or hygienic reasons, or the stream of water itself.
Douche usually refers to vaginal irrigation, the rinsing of the vagina, but it can also refer to the rinsing of any body cavity. A douche bag is a piece of equipment for douching(a bag for holding the fluid used in douching.)
After looking into it i also found out that theres a really big controversy out there, and that many people are" iffy" on whether or not they should douche? which brings me to my question To douche or not to douche?
first of all lets start out with asking. Is Douching Healthy?
Simply stated, the answer is "No."
According to a study published by the American Journal of Public Health, douching may reduce a woman's chance of becoming pregnant during a particular month by approximately thirty percent.
Regular vaginal douching changes the delicate chemical balance of the vagina and can make a woman more susceptible to infections. Douching can introduce new bacteria into the vagina which can spread up through the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes. Researchers have found that women who douche regularly experience more vaginal irritations and infections such as bacterial vaginosis, and an increased number of sexually transmitted diseases.
but wait theres more...regular users of vaginal douches face a 73% greater risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)(a chronic condition that can lead to infertility, or even death, if left untreated.) Bacterial vaginosis and PID can have serious adverse affects on pregnancy including infections in the baby, labor problems, and preterm delivery.
it wouldnt be a controversy with out another side.
many women around the world still use douching as an effective way to self clean their vaginal area. i know plenty of women( all older then me) who douche and say that they have never had a problem and they feel cleaner then ever down there.
so again its all up to you.. douching may or may not be the way for you,but if you find that it is ,there are many products out there that can help keep you fresh and clean down there.

I have never had a cataract before but my friend did one time. We were in junior high and we were hanging out at school one time and I noticed something a little bit different with her eye. I really didn't notice much of her eye, it was just a little bit of red. She said she couldn't see really that good, and that her eyes were getting blurry. The next day she went to the doctor and they told her that she had a cataract eye.
A cataract is a painless, cloudy area in the lens of the eye that blocks the passage of light to the retina. The retina is the nerve layer at the back of the eye. The nerve cells in the retina detect light entering the eye and send nerve signals to the brain about what the eye sees. Because cataracts block this light, they can cause vision problems.
Your doctor can find out if you have cataracts by doing a physical exam and by asking questions about your symptoms and past health. You may need other tests to make sure you have a cataract or to rule out other conditions that may be causing vision problems.

I remember opening up a green tea package and reading that cures almost everything. It's a "real miracle worker" It helps you out with diabetes, cancer, UTI, anything! Well I decided to look on the internet on some facts about Green Tea and see if it really is a miracle worker. The pharmacy researchers have shown that drinking green tea helps the action of important antibiotics in their fight against resistant superbugs, making them up to three times more effective.
Green tea is a very common beverage in Egypt, and it is quite likely that patients will drink green tea while taking antibiotics. The medical researchers wanted to find out if green tea would interfere with the action of the antibiotics, have no effect, or increase the medicines' effects.
"We tested green tea in combination with antibiotics against 28 disease causing micro-organisms belonging to two different classes," says Dr Mervat Kassem from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Alexandria University in Egypt. "In every single case green tea enhanced the bacteria-killing activity of the antibiotics. For example the killing effect of chloramphenicol was 99.99% better when taken with green tea than when taken on its own in some circumstances."
Green tea also made 20% of drug-resistant bacteria susceptible to one of the cephalosporin antibiotics. These are important antibiotics that new drug resistant strains of bacteria have evolved to resist.
The results surprised the researchers, showing that in almost every case and for all types of antibiotics tested, drinking green tea at the same time as taking the medicines seemed to reduce the bacteria's drug resistance, even in superbug strains, and increase the action of the antibiotics. In some cases, even a low concentration of green tea was effective.
"Our results show that we should consider more seriously the natural products we consume in our everyday life," says Dr Kassem. "In the future, we will be looking at other natural herb products such as marjoram and thyme to see whether they also contain active compounds which can help in the battle against drug resistant bacteria".

It's especially important for people with certain medical conditions (like kidney disease, diabetes, HIV, heart problems, or asthma) to get a flu vaccine because getting vaccinated can protect against complications like pneumonia. Kids and teens who take aspirin regularly also need to be vaccinated because they're at risk for developing a serious condition called Reye syndrome if they get the flu.
Another reason for getting vaccinated is to protect the people around you who might get seriously ill from flu, especially because many (like very young babies) can't be vaccinated themselves. It's what scientists call "herd immunity" — by protecting yourself you are also protecting other people who are more vulnerable because there's less chance you'll get the flu and pass it on. No one likes to get the flu so you should get vaccinated.
So be sure to get vaccinated if you are around people who are at risk if they get the flu, like babies, people with a serious illness, and the elderly. You wouldn't want your little baby brother or sister to get the flu at such a young age.
The best time to get a flu shot in the United States is in October or November. This gives the body a chance to build up immunity before the winter flu season. However, you can get a flu shot throughout flu season and still have some protection against the flu. You can also protect yourself against the flu by washing your hands frequently. Washing your hands also keeps you very clean and it protects you from other germs.
Flu vaccines are available as a shot or nasal mist (a type of spray that's squirted up the nose). The shot contains killed flu viruses that won't cause people to get the flu, but will cause the body to make antibodies to fight off infection by the live flu virus.
The flu shot is about 80% effective against the flu, which means that a few people who get the shot will still get the flu. In addition, the shot only contains certain strains of the virus. If a new flu strain emerges, a person who's had a shot may not be protected against it.
Get protected now with flu vaccine.
